A new tech platform is offering free WiFi and content solutions to taxi and bus commuters. Sebenza offers commuters the opportunity to complete a series of tasks – like consumer surveys – to earn “Sebenza bucks”. Users can then use these bucks to purchase access to the internet on taxis and buses.
Who is the founder of Sebenza WiFi?
Sebenza founders Calvin Le Mottée and Wesley Dorning tested their first 30 taxis in Hammanskraal in 2019 and another 70 in Northgate in 2020. The results spurred their ambition, and by the end of 2021 Sebenza had installed routers in just over 600 taxis nationwide.

Telematics company Netstar, a subsidiary of Altron, in partnership with Vodacom Business, is empowering taxi commuters across the country through the use of a free in-taxi connectivity service, WiTaxi.
