Hudson & Rex is set in the fictional St. John’s Police Department (SJPD), where Detective Charlie Hudson and his canine partner, Rex, tackle major crimes in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. While the show’s police department is fictional, the actual filming location for the police headquarters is a real building: the Bruneau Centre for Research at Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John’s. This modern architectural landmark, with its distinctive inverted dome roof and elaborate glass façade, serves as the visual backdrop for the SJPD on screen[3][4][7].

The choice of St. John’s as both the narrative and visual setting grounds the series in a strikingly authentic East Coast landscape. The Bruneau Centre, sometimes referred to as the INCO Innovation Centre, is an architectural highlight not only due to its design but also because of how seamlessly it is transformed for the show—university staff and students regularly witness police signage and movie sets on location, and are even notified about the temporary “police presence” during filming[3][4].
